Halloween is my favourite crafting season – ghosts, bats and pumpkins are simple shapes that little hands can cut, and kids love decorating their home or classroom with something they made themselves. Here are my favourite printable Halloween paper crafts for kids about 4–9 years old. Every one is hand-drawn by me and comes as a PDF template with step-by-step instructions, so you can print and start crafting in minutes.
Cute, not-scary crafts for the youngest
For preschoolers I always pick friendly characters with big smiles – nobody should be scared of their own craft!
- Cute ghost – two little ghosts in witch hats stirring their cauldrons. My newest Halloween design.
- Ghost with pumpkin – a friendly ghost holding a big orange pumpkin.
- Friendly spider – purple, striped and smiling. Even kids who don't like spiders love this one.
- Swirly ghosts – quick to make and lovely in a row on the windowsill.
- Jack-o'-lantern – the classic Halloween pumpkin, a perfect first Halloween craft.
Halloween decorations for the window and door
These look great on a classroom wall, the front door or a window – and they last all through October.
- Halloween window – a stained-glass style window with ghosts, bats, a pumpkin and a black cat.
- Wreath with ghost – a round wreath with a little ghost peeking through the middle.
- Halloween chain – a garland of ghosts and pumpkins; great when the whole class makes one piece each.
- Flying ghosts – ghosts floating over a haunted house under the full moon.
- Haunted house picture – a purple haunted house with friendly ghosts all around.
Crafts kids keep playing with
My favourite kind of craft is the one that doesn't end up in a drawer. These have something to open, fold or stand up:
- Lift-the-flap haunted house – open the doors and windows to find who's hiding inside.
- Halloween door – knock knock! Open the door to find the ghosts having a party.
- Bat on a tree – bats hanging upside down from a branch. One of my best-selling Halloween crafts.
- Standing ghosts – they stand on their own, so they're a sweet table or shelf decoration.
A Halloween treat holder to give away
The bat lollipop holder holds a lollipop or a small sweet – kids love making one for each friend, and it makes a lovely little gift for a Halloween party.
A quiet activity for Halloween week
For calm afternoons or early finishers, colouring pages are a lifesaver: try the 10 Halloween colouring pages or the bigger eBook with 30 Halloween and autumn colouring pages.
My tips for crafting with a group
- Print a few extra copies – someone always cuts off an arm or a wing.
- Let the kids colour first, cut second. Colouring on the whole sheet is easier than on small pieces.
- Pre-cut the tricky parts for the youngest and let them do the gluing and decorating.
- Plan a display. A garland or a row of ghosts on the window makes kids proud – and parents see it at pick-up time.
